The agreement provides a way for developed countries to assist developing countries in their mitigation and adaptation efforts, while providing a framework for transparent monitoring and reporting on countries` climate goals. UNFCCC Secretary Patricia Espinosa tweeted: “Given the continued global impact of COVID-19, it is not possible to hold an ambitious and inclusive COP26 in November 2020.” [18] She also stressed that when economies recover, it will be an opportunity to “shape the economy of the 21st century in a clean, green, healthy, equitable, safe and resilient way.” [18] The new agreed date was announced in May 2020. [2] In early 2021, the UK and Italy will host the G7 and G20 summits respectively. [19] The Paris Agreement provides a sustainable framework that guides global efforts for decades to come. The aim is to increase countries` climate ambitions over time. To this end, the agreement provides for two review processes, each to be carried out in a five-year cycle.
The conference was held from 28 to 31 September. October 2021, a few days before the annual United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as the Conference of the Parties, in the same host country as the COP. In view of the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, the Conference of the Parties has been postponed from 1 to 12 November 2021. [16] Host countries Italy and the UK have been severely affected by the pandemic, and the conference venue, the SEC Centre in Glasgow, was converted into a makeshift hospital for COVID-19 patients in May 2020. [17] In the run-up to COP26, the UK worked with all countries to reach an agreement on tackling climate change. World leaders, along with tens of thousands of negotiators, government officials, businesses and citizens, arrived in Scotland for twelve days of talks. The Climate Ambition Summit website is.. π₯ .
