The agreement provides a way for developed countries to assist developing countries in their mitigation and adaptation efforts, while providing a framework for transparent monitoring and reporting on countries` climate goals. UNFCCC Secretary Patricia Espinosa tweeted: “Given the continued global impact of COVID-19, it is not possible to hold an ambitious and inclusive COP26 in November 2020.” [18] She also stressed that when economies recover, it will be an opportunity to “shape the economy of the 21st century in a clean, green, healthy, equitable, safe and resilient way.” [18] The new agreed date was announced in May 2020. [2] In early 2021, the UK and Italy will host the G7 and G20 summits respectively. [19] The Paris Agreement provides a sustainable framework that guides global efforts for decades to come. The aim is to increase countries` climate ambitions over time. To this end, the agreement provides for two review processes, each to be carried out in a five-year cycle.
